Rajasthan Govt Schools Record Historic Spike in Enrolment
Teachers honoured for outstanding CBA results and innovative teaching methods; outstanding teachers will be selected every month
UdaipurTimes, Nov 5, 2026 - The Rajasthan School Education Department, under the directions of Additional Chief Secretary Rajesh Yadav and in line with the vision of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, are encouraging outstanding teachers through the Star Teacher initiative. Efforts also are being made to bring every child into the mainstream of education through the Rajasthan Shiksha Setu Abhiyan.
These coordinated efforts have yielded positive results, with government schools recording a historic increase in enrolment after five years.
Star Teacher Initiative
The Star Teacher initiative was launched in October to recognise and encourage teachers who deliver better academic results in government schools and adopt effective and innovative teaching methods. In the first list released on October 26, 15 teachers from eight government schools across Rajasthan were selected as the State's first Star Teachers.
The selection was based on two key criteria:
1. CBA Results (11 teachers):
Based on the Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) results of March 2026, 11 teachers from schools that secured the highest rankings in each division were selected. These teachers made commendable contributions to improving students' academic performance.
2. Innovative Teaching Methods (4 teachers):
Four teachers were selected based on short videos demonstrating innovative classroom practices, including simplifying difficult concepts, using educational games and creatively utilising Teaching-Learning Materials (TLM). The videos were transparently evaluated against four prescribed parameters, carrying a total of 20 marks.
All selected teachers have been awarded digital certificates through the Teacher App, while their names have been published on the Shala Darpan portal. The selection process will now be conducted regularly every month.
Rajasthan Shiksha Setu Abhiyan
With the objective of ensuring school admission for every child deprived of education, the department has launched the Rajasthan Shiksha Setu Abhiyan in two phases. Under this campaign, each school principal assigns one teacher the responsibility of identifying and supporting a child. The teacher contacts the child's family and ensures the child's enrolment in school.
The entire process is monitored through the Shala Darpan portal and dashboard.
To ensure effective monitoring of the campaign:
- Reviews are conducted every 15 days at the CBEO level.
- CDEOs monitor the progress of the campaign.
- District Collectors conduct monthly reviews.
Special attention is being given to girls, children with special needs, migrant children, child labourers and children belonging to tribal and nomadic communities.
Historic Increase
As a result of these initiatives, government schools across the State have recorded a significant increase in enrolment for the first time in five years.
The key figures are as follows:
Increase in Overall Enrolment: As of July 2026, total enrolment in government schools has increased to 72,98,854, which is 48,358 higher than the enrolment of 72,50,496 recorded during the 2025–26 academic year.
Higher Participation of Girls: Girls account for 53.3% (38,92,355) of total enrolment, while boys account for 46.7% (34,06,486).
Gender Ratio: This year, enrolment of girls in government schools has exceeded that of boys by approximately 4.86 lakh. Currently, for every 1,000 boys enrolled, there are 1,143 girls. This reflects growing societal confidence in girls' education.
District-Wise Enrolment Trends: The following districts have recorded substantial increases in enrolment:
- Banswara - 11,939
- Udaipur - 9,448
- Barmer - 5,937
- Jalore - 5,485
- Sirohi - 4,295
Special reviews are being conducted in districts where enrolment has declined to prevent students from dropping out of school.
