Commonwealth Games 2026 Day 6: India Add More Medals as Preeti, Priya Seal Boxing Podiums
India enjoyed another successful day at the Commonwealth Games, winning medals in weightlifting while Preeti and Priya guaranteed podium finishes in boxing by reaching the semi-finals.
July 29, 2026: India continued its impressive run at the Commonwealth Games with another successful day on Tuesday. While the team could not repeat the historic six-medal haul from Day 5, the athletes still delivered encouraging performances across multiple events. India added two more medals to its tally in weightlifting, while the boxing contingent guaranteed at least two more medals by reaching the semi-finals. The performances kept India's momentum alive as the country continued its push up the medal standings.
In weightlifting, Valluri Ajay Babu produced an outstanding performance to win the silver medal in the men's 79kg category. He lifted a combined total of 330kg to finish second on the podium and add another silver to India's tally. Bindiyarani Devi also impressed by claiming the bronze medal in the women's 58kg category with a total lift of 199kg. However, Nirupama Devi Seram was unable to convert her promising run into a medal. After qualifying for the final, she narrowly missed out on a podium finish despite putting in a determined effort. Even so, India's weightlifters once again proved to be among the country's strongest performers at the Games.
Preeti and Priya Secure India Two More Boxing Medals
India's boxing team continued its excellent form as Preeti Power and Priya booked their places in the semi-finals, ensuring at least two bronze medals for the country. In the women's 54kg quarter-final, Preeti defeated Nicole Clyde of Northern Ireland with a confident performance to move into the last four. Her victory guaranteed India another medal, with a chance to upgrade it if she wins her semi-final bout.

Priya also delivered an impressive display in her quarter-final clash against Nimah Mitchell of Scotland. She controlled the contest well and secured a comfortable victory to reach the semi-finals. Like Preeti, Priya has now guaranteed herself at least a bronze medal. If both Indian boxers win their respective semi-finals, they will not only assure themselves of silver medals but will also earn the opportunity to fight for gold in the finals. Their performances have once again highlighted India's growing strength in boxing on the international stage.
India Eye Better Medal Position as More Events Await
At the end of Day 6, India occupied eighth place in the overall medal standings with 2 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze medals. However, the medal tally is certain to increase because Preeti and Priya have already secured podium finishes by reaching the semi-finals. The only question now is whether those medals will remain bronze or be upgraded in the coming rounds.
India will also have several athletes competing in the remaining events over the next few days, giving the country more opportunities to add to its medal tally. After creating history with six medals on Day 5, the Indian contingent has maintained its consistency with another productive day. With boxing, weightlifting and several other disciplines still in action, fans will be hoping that Team India can continue its strong run and climb further up the Commonwealth Games medal table.
