Major Dhyan Chand, who is popularly known as “Wizard of Hockey” did not just lead the Indian Hockey Team in several international grounds but also brought laurels to the nation. His Birth Anniversary (29^th August) is officially celebrated as National Sports Day.

Today on the occasion of the death anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, city’s many hockey players and fans presented a memorandum to the collector and demanded Bharat Ratna, one of the highest national honors for Major Dhyan Chand.

Dr. Kuldeep Singh Jhala, hockey trainer at MLSU with local hockey players met District Collector Ashutosh Pednekar and handed over a letter in the name of President of India. District Collector has assured to forward their demands to higher officials and hope for positive response.

Dr. Jhala, in the memorandum mentioned that he himself support star cricketer Sachin Tendulkar to get Bharat Ratna for his achievements but government should also not ignore the enormous contribution of Major Dhyan Chand.

“Major Dhyan Chand, as one of the greatest sportsmen of India does not need any recognition but government should give the first posthumous Bharat Ratna Award to major’s family” said Dr. Jhala.
