India Finish Fourth at Commonwealth Games 2026 with 39 Medals: Full Winners List & Key Highlights

August 04, 2026: India ended their 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign in Glasgow on a high, finishing fourth in the final medal standings with 39 medals despite competing in a significantly reduced sporting programme. The Indian contingent won 13 gold, 17 silver, and nine bronze medals, once again establishing itself as one of the top-performing nations at the Games.

Australia comfortably finished at the top of the medal table with 171 medals, including 70 gold. England claimed second place with 110 medals, while Canada finished third with 62 medals. Hosts Scotland also won 39 medals, but India secured fourth place by virtue of winning more silver medals.

Despite the absence of several traditional medal-winning sports such as shooting, badminton, wrestling, hockey, and table tennis, India adapted well to the revised programme. The contingent delivered strong performances across boxing, athletics, judo, para sports, weightlifting, and para powerlifting to register another memorable Commonwealth Games campaign.

Boxing Leads India's Medal Charge

Boxing emerged as India's biggest success story in Glasgow, with the team winning 10 medals, including a record seven gold and three silver medals. Athletics and para athletics also made major contributions, while judokas and weightlifters consistently added to India's medal tally throughout the competition.

India's 13 gold medals came through Jaismine Lamboria (Women's 57kg Boxing), Sachin Siwach (Men's 60kg Boxing), Ankush Panghal (Men's 80kg Boxing), Sakshi Chaudhary (Women's 51kg Boxing), Preeti Pawar (Women's 54kg Boxing), Priya (Women's 60kg Boxing), Arundhati Choudhary (Women's 70kg Boxing), Dilip Mahadu Gavit (Men's 100m T47 Para Athletics), Soman Rana (Men's Shot Put F57 Para Athletics), Sharmila (Women's Shot Put F57 Para Athletics), Asmita Dey (Women's 48kg Judo), Harsh Singh (Men's 60kg Judo), and Mirabai Chanu Saikhom (Women's 48kg Weightlifting).

India's 17 silver medals were won by Jadumani Singh Mandengbam, Narender Berwal, Lovlina Borgohain, Gulveer Singh (10,000m), Mohammed Basil Morssinganakath, Sarvesh Anil Kushare, Neeraj Chopra, Murali Sreeshankar, Shubham Juyal, Praveen Chithravel, Yamini Mourya, Lovepreet Singh, Rishikanta Singh Chanambam, Raja Muthupandi, Valluri Ajaya Babu, Gyaneshwari Yadav, and Harjinder Kaur.

The country's nine bronze medals came through Gulveer Singh (5,000m), Tejaswin Shankar, Yash Vir Singh, Selva Prabhu Thirumaran, Seema, Shilpa Kanchugarakoppalu Shyla, Unnati Sharma, Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam, and Jhandu Kumar.

Challenges, Disappointments and the Road Ahead

Although India enjoyed another successful campaign, there were a few setbacks. The biggest came before the Games when judoka Tulika Maan was ruled out after being provisionally suspended for three whereabouts failures under anti-doping regulations.

The reduced competition programme also affected India's medal tally. With sports like shooting, badminton, wrestling, hockey, and table tennis not included, India had fewer medal opportunities than in previous editions. Even so, the contingent adjusted well and remained among the strongest teams in Glasgow.

With the 2026 Commonwealth Games now concluded, India's attention will shift to the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which will be held in Ahmedabad. The official handover during the closing ceremony in Glasgow marked the beginning of preparations for the centenary edition of the Games. It will also be India's second time hosting the Commonwealth Games after New Delhi 2010, giving the country another opportunity to showcase itself on the global sporting stage.
