January 15, 2025 - After tying the knot only a month ago, Indian shuttler PV Sindhu is back on the court and with a bang! Yesterday, Sindhu made a strong return to the court with a resounding victory at the India Open 2025 badminton tournament. In Round 32, Sindhu defeated Sung Shuo Yun of Taiwan 21-14, 22-20. Her next opponent will be Japan's Suzu Manami.
Readers may recall that Sindhu got married to IT professional Venkata Datta Sai at a grand ceremony in Raffles Udaipur on December 22.
In other news from India Open badminton championship, experienced player Kidambi Srikanth withdrew from the first round of the Men's Singles due to personal reasons. As a result, China’s Hang Yang Bang received a walkover.
In the Women’s Doubles, India suffered a setback when the pair of Gayatri Gopichand and Trisha Jolly lost in the first round. The Indian duo was defeated by the unseeded Japanese pair of Arisa Igarashi and Ayako Sukuramoto, 23-21, 21-19.
The 2025 India Open (also known as the Yonex Sunrise India Open 2025) is currently in progress at the KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, and will continue until January 19.
PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen are among the top players in the BWF Super 750 championship which involves a prize money of $950,000.
