February 19, 2026: Actor-comedian Vir Das reacted to the controversy involving Galgotias University during the India AI Impact Summit. As the issue gained attention online, Vir Das responded in his usual humorous style while the debate around the robotic dog continued.

What Did Vir Das Say?

Amid the discussion about the university’s robotic dog, Vir Das shared a photo of a real dog on social media. He wrote that people should adopt indie dogs because they are wonderful. In a light-hearted remark, he joked that the dog was not made by Galgotias University.

In another post on X, he made a sarcastic comment saying that nothing is truly original. He added that humans are also creations who keep evolving into new forms, and humorously referred to everything being made by “the great Galgotia University in the sky.”

What Is the Robot Dog Controversy?

The controversy started when Galgotias University was reportedly asked to vacate its stall at the expo area of the AI Summit in New Delhi. A video from the event went viral. In the video, representatives presented a robotic dog as a product developed by the university’s Centre of Excellence.

Later, the robot was identified as Unitree Go2, a commercially available robot made by Unitree Robotics. The model is available in India for around ₹2 lakh to ₹3 lakh.

At the summit, the robot was displayed under the name “Orion.” In some videos, university representatives appeared to suggest that it was developed by their Centre of Excellence. This led to criticism on social media, with users accusing the university of presenting an imported product as its own innovation.

University’s Response

Professor Neha Singh, who presented the robot, later responded to the controversy. She said the issue arose because the information may not have been communicated clearly. She accepted responsibility for not explaining it properly.

She clarified that the university did not manufacture the robot. According to her, the robot was introduced to students to inspire them to build better technology in the future. She added that the university aims to support innovation in artificial intelligence and provide students with access to advanced technologies.

Meanwhile, on the professional front, Vir Das was last seen in Happy Patel: Khatarnaak Jasoos, produced by Aamir Khan Productions.
