May 23, 2026: A fiery moment unfolded during the IPL 2026 clash between Virat Kohli and Travis Head at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium as tempers flared in a high-pressure encounter between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Kohli was at the crease when Head, fielding at cover, appeared to remark after the RCB batter edged a boundary. The Australian gestured that the ball was not coming from the middle of Kohli’s bat, something the former RCB captain seemingly did not appreciate. Kohli reacted instantly and looked visibly fired up on the field.

Heated Exchange Between Kohli And Head

The tension increased further at the change of overs when Head crossed Kohli and appeared to pass comments toward Ishan Kishan and the bowlers. Kohli responded aggressively, leading to a brief verbal exchange between the two star players. The RCB batter was seen making animated hand gestures while Head tried to play down the situation.

The altercation quickly became one of the biggest talking points of the match as videos of the incident spread rapidly across social media platforms.

Kohli’s Aggressive Celebration After Head’s Wicket

Earlier in the innings, Kohli had already shown intense emotions after Head’s dismissal. The SRH opener looked dangerous from the start and attacked pacer Rasikh Dar with three consecutive boundaries.

However, Dar responded brilliantly with a pinpoint yorker that shattered Head’s stumps. As soon as the wicket fell, Kohli erupted in celebration near the boundary ropes, roaring passionately while Head walked back to the pavilion. Later in the innings, Kohli was again seen pointing toward the middle of his bat after boundaries were struck, seemingly responding to Head’s earlier comments. After the end of the game, Head tried to shake hands with Kohli, and once he realised there was no interest from the other end, he also moved forward.

SRH Post Massive Total Against RCB

The match carried huge importance in the Qualifier 1 race, and Hyderabad came out attacking from the beginning. Abhishek Sharma smashed 56 runs off just 22 balls, while Ishan Kishan played a brilliant knock of 79 off 46 deliveries. Heinrich Klaasen added further damage with a quick-fire 51 as SRH powered their way to a massive 255/4 in 20 overs.

In reply, Bengaluru started strongly inside the powerplay but lost momentum during the middle overs. Despite the collapse, RCB still needed to reach the 170-run mark to secure their Qualifier 1 clash against the Gujarat Titans at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium on May 26.
