BCCI Breaks Silence on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s ODI Career

August 11, 2025: The Indian team’s England tour has ended, and now Team India’s next mission is the Asia Cup. But before the Asia Cup, there is big news about two Indian team veterans, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

BCCI Breaks Silence

BCCI has now spoken about the rumors regarding Kohli and Rohit’s ODI future. The board said it is not in a hurry to make any decision about their future. Right now, the focus is on preparing for the upcoming Asia Cup and next year’s T20 World Cup.

After the England Test series ended, India will not play any international matches until the Asia Cup starts. During this time, there have been many talks about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma ending their international cricket careers. There have been rumours that both players may say goodbye to their ODI careers during the Australia tour in October 2025. If they want to play until the 2027 World Cup, they need to take part in the domestic ODI tournament, the Vijay Hazare Trophy. It is less likely they will be selected without playing domestic cricket.

BCCI’s Response and Future Plans

An experienced BCCI source told news agency PTI that there is no hurry or talk of a ‘farewell match’ in the board. No player is being forced to retire. The BCCI takes big decisions carefully and respects the feelings of the players and the public, he added.

The source said, “Both Kohli and Rohit have retired from Test and T20 cricket and now only play ODIs. If they have any plans, they will tell the board officials like they did before the England Test tour. From the team’s view, the next big tournament is the T20 World Cup in February, and we are preparing for it. Our focus is on the Asia Cup T20 in September, where we will try to send a strong team.”
