Ahmedabad and Udaipur will soon be connected on Broad Gauge, as the gauge conversion project is near completion. As per official reports, the Rs 1,600 Cr project is set to complete in April, after which the trains will begin plying on this route.

Benefits of this project:

This route will help in better connectivity of Southern Rajasthan to Southern India.

Second Shortest Route for Ahmedabad-Delhi

Till now there have been two railway routes between Ahmedabad and Delhi; viz. Ahmedabad to Delhi (Ahmedabad-Ajmer Via Abu Road), which takes 14 hours to cover 871 kms and Ahmedabad to Delhi (Ahmedabad-Barodra-Kota-Delhi), which takes 18 hours to cover 1094 kms. This project will facilitate another quicker route between for Ahmedbad and Delhi (Ahmedabad-Dungarpur-Udaipur-Ajmer-Jaipur-Delhi), which will take 15 hours to cover 937 kms. This will be the second shortest route between Ahmedabad and Delhi.

Udaipur-Ahmedabad gauge conversion will not only connect Udaipur-Ahmedbad, but Chittorgarh too.

Benefit to Migrants of Tribal Special Pocket(TSP): 3 lakh migrants of TSP will get benefit from it as they keep moving to  Mumbai & Gujarat for job opportunities. Now they will be able to move to Delhi as well for livelihood.

Pending Work :

Across the Udaipur-Himmatnagar-Ahmedabad gauge conversion (297 km), the track of Jaisamand – Kharwa (38 km) is also complete, but CRS is pending, which will be probably done on March 29. Preparations are going on for the same. After CRS is done, the train will run from Udaipur Station to Ahmedabad via Dungarpur.

Current Status:

Presently DEMU train has started from Dungarpur to Himatnagar (73 Km). The CRM of Dungarpur-Jaisamand Road Station (52 km) was done on March 6. After CRS approval, train will start here also.

Electrification:

Along with the Udaipur-Himmatnagar gauge conversion, Udaipur to Himmatnagar electrification work has also started (Rs. 300 Crore project). Railway department wants to electrify all the railway routes of country by 2023. The benefit of this electrification will be that the super fast trains like Rajdhani Express, Gatiman Express, Shatabdi Express, etc. will pass from Udaipur to Ahmedabad via Dungarpur & Himmatnagar.
