A Cat snake was rescued today from a bird cage in a house near Jeevan Tara Resort. The snake was rescued by Padam Singh Rathore, founder of Wild & Street Animal Rescue Society. The snake was later released in the forest region
Padam Singh informed that the snake rescued was a common Indian Cat Snake that are generally a semi venomous in nature (can kill small birds and small animals with its poison but are not harmful to human beings). An adult snake can grow up to 4.2 ft – 4.5 ft in length and is fond of eating small toads, frogs, lizards and small rodents.
Padam informed that the Cat snake variety likes to stay on branch mesh on and around trees and also on the grassy meadows.
In an interesting snippet, Padam Singh informed that there are 28 species of snakes in Udaipur, out of which Rat Snake is the most common species. He also informed that only 15% of the snakes found in Udaipur region are poisonous.
