Based at Sajjangarh Sanctuary, this safari area is spread over 20 hectares
Udaipur, November 1, 2024 - The second lion safari in the State is set to start in Udaipur this month at the Sajjangarh Sanctuary. As per earlier reports, the project was expected to be inaugurated in October along with the Reptile House but got delayed.
After Jaipur’s Nahargarh safari, this new one in Udaipur will prove a big attraction for tourists visiting the Mewar region. The lion safari is expected to be launched in the second half of November this year.
Asiatic lions Samrat and Sunaina which were earlier brought from Sakkarbaug Zoological Park in Junagadh, will be released into this sanctuary. And going forward, it is hoped their population increases gradually.
The Udaipur lion safari is spread over a 20-hectare forest area. It is located on the opposite side of the Sajjangarh Biological Park. Work on this area at Sajjangarh Sanctuary is now nearing completion. The project has been funded by the Zoo Development Trust at a cost of Rs 3.45 crore and includes a holding area which is expected to be ready in the next 10 days.
The Sajjangarh Sanctuary holding area has 10 cages and a 5-kilometer pathway for tourist vehicles. Within the same complex, a raised viewpoint named Cloud 9 has been developed, offering a beautiful view of the city.
In addition to this, a five hectare grazing area has been created. Large trees have been planted throughout the area to provide shade for wildlife in the future.
