Udaipur ranked first in Rajasthan in Swachh Survekshan 2020 - #54 at national level

Udaipur secured the first place in Rajasthan for cities less than 10 lakh population, whereas Jaipur stood first at Rajasthan level for cities with more than 10 lakh population. Udaipur took 54th place at the national level.

Qamar Chaudhary, Commissioner, UMC and CEO of Udaipur Smart City Projects said that the waste management initiatives of the Udaipur Municipal Corporation and Udaipur Smart City projects played a big role in this achievement.

Udaipur was ranked first in Rajasthan and 54th at national level  in the category of cities with less than 10 lakh population in the Swachh Survekshan 2020. The results were announced by Union Minister Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri. 25 cities in Rajasthan fall under the category of cities with population less than 10 lakh.

Udaipur’s ranking in the same survey in 2019 was 136 at national level ranking among 382 cities in its category, which goes to show that the cleanliness drive is paying dividends. Though the city of lakes is struggling in terms of cleanliness and the smart city drive, the nationwide ranking does give some hope for a better performance in days to come. Note that Udaipur was ranked 85 in the same survey in 2018. So this is Udaipur's best ranking in the last three years.

Udaipur Collector Chetan Deora congratulated the stake holders as well as the people of Udaipur for this achievement. Qamar Chaudhary, Commissioner, UMC and CEO of Udaipur Smart City Projects said that the waste management initiatives of the Udaipur Municipal Corporation and Udaipur Smart City projects played a big role in this achievement. Moreover, the continuous feedback received from the people of Udaipur served to correct the benchmarks and set better standards in cleanliness. With a long way to go, there will be more such initiatives and Udaipur will fare better in the future at national level.

In the 5th edition of the Swachh Survekshan ranking, Indore took first spot once again in the category of cities more than 10 lakh population. Surat in Gujarat and Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra stood second and third respectively. Rajasthan’s Jaipur and Jodhpur were at 28th and 29th position respectively.

Ambikapur in Chhatisgarh took first place at national level for cities below 10 lakh population.

Among the states, Chhatisgarh stood first in the category of states with more than 100 cities, and Rajasthan stood 9th. Jharkhand was declared the cleanest state in the category of states having less than 100 cities.
