Rohit & Kohli May Return for Sri Lanka ODIs This August

India’s Bangladesh tour postponed owing to security concerns; Sri Lanka offers alternative

July 19, 2025 - After India’s tour of Bangladesh was postponed, Indian fans were disappointed. Their wait to see two legends, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, on the cricket field became even longer. Both players have retired from T20 and Test cricket. The last time fans saw them play was during IPL 2025.

Sri Lanka Cricket saw this as a good chance and offered to host a six-match limited-overs series in August. They made this offer to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Now, it is expected that fans may soon see Rohit and Kohli back on the field. As per reports, Sri Lanka has received a positive response from the BCCI. Final talks about the series are likely to happen during the ICC meetings in Singapore this week.

After the five-match Test series against England, India was set to tour Bangladesh from August 17. However, owing to security concerns in Bangladesh, both the Indian and Bangladeshi cricket boards decided to postpone the tour until 2026.

A senior official from Sri Lanka Cricket told www.telecomasia.net, “We have received a positive response. More talks will happen during the ICC meeting in Singapore. We expect a final decision in two or three days.”

If the tour gets approved, the matches could take place in Colombo and Kandy. Earlier, Sri Lanka had offered a three-match ODI series and a three-match T20 series. But with the T20 World Cup coming next year, the number of T20 matches may be increased.
